There are many benefits to using electronic leak detection
Some ICON Water bills are wrong.
ICON Water is allowed to make estimations when they cannot access your water meter. However, some inaccurate bills are not even based on estimates. The meter reader may have made a mistake with a street number or a digit may have been transposed by the meter reader. The water meter may be faulty and reading too fast.
We have visited a number of Canberra homes where the high ICON Water bill could not possibly have been the result of an accurate water meter reading. On one occasion a water bill stated that the meter reading for the end of that billing period was almost 130,000 litres more than it read 2 weeks later when we attended to check for a water leak.

Tip:
If you receive a high water bill from ICON Water, immediately check the numbers on the bill and the digits on the water meter. Write the digits on the water meter down and if possible, take a picture of the digits on the water meter. You may need this picture for evidence. With these figures, you can calculate the accuracy of your bill.
How to calculate your water consumption:
You can calculate your water consumption for the billing period and the period between the meter reading and the day you received your water bill by following this simple formula:
Use the number of kilolitres on the bill (kl) x 1000 ÷ number of days in the billing period ÷ 24 hours ÷ 60 minutes = litres per minute
Then use the number of kilolitres on the meter dial on the day that you received the bill (kl) x 1000 – number of kilolitres on the bill (kl) x 1000 = litres used between the end of the billing period and the day you received the water bill
Then use litres ÷ number of days between the end of the billing period and the day you received the water bill. Then use that number ÷ 24 hours ÷ 60 = litres per minute
The average litre per minute usage for both periods should be roughly the same. If it is not, it is likely that the bill is wrong.
What is the result if the answers are similar?
If the answers are similar it is likely that you have used a lot of water, your water meter is faulty or that you have a water leak.
