There can be more than 100m of buried drainage systems on a normal residential building block in Canberra and Queanbeyan. Most are more than 50 years old and a mix of UPVC and vitrified clay pipes.
When drainage systems don’t work properly, they can severely affect the structure and amenity of all building types.
Drain cleaning and drain laying can be mentally and physically challenging, and many drainers take shortcuts.
We have the equipment, experience, and integrity to do the job correctly every time.

If you live in the Canberra and Queanbeyan region, this FAQ is important.
Why is damp soil against my wall a problem?
- At the very least, damp soil against walls can lead to musty smells.
- Damp soil against walls, especially if the walls aren’t sealed on the outside, can cause paint to blister and skirting boards to swell.
- Damp soil against walls can cause bricks to deteriorate to the point where they begin to crumble, losing their structural strength.
- Damp soils provide a home for termites and attract termites to internal timber structures and fittings.
- Damp soils encourage mould and fungi to grow.
- Dampness causes clay soils to swell, leading to structural cracks.
- Damp soils may signal blocked stormwater drains or the need to install a subsoil drain.
Be wary of inexperienced plumbers, builders and landscapers. Good stormwater designs can be wasted if drainage systems are installed too shallow, in the wrong place, or not installed to remain operational long term.

What are the signs you have a broken sewer pipe?
- A sewer drain that keeps blocking is a strong sign you have a broken sewer pipe.
- Longer-than-usual grass or green patches in your lawn can signal extra nutrients in your soil. These nutrients likely come from sewer leaks.
- If a sewer drain can’t be unblocked with a drain jetter or an electric eel, it’s a strong sign of a serious break.
- Subsiding ground above the sewerage pipe may indicate a break, especially if the drain is more than 10 years old.
- Dirt at the bottom of a gully trap, or water draining completely out of it, indicates a hole or crack in the gully trap base.
- Backfall (the drain holding water) can indicate the drain has snapped underground.
- A CCTV drain camera inspection is the best way to see if you have a broken sewer drain. It can also provide the exact location and depth of the break.
Just because you have a blockage in your sewerage pipe or a bad smell doesn’t always mean you have a broken sewer pipe. Be wary of scammers who pressure you into digging up your sewer drains for these reasons.
